Business Registration Certificate

The Business Registration Certificate is issued by the Inland Revenue Department and must be displayed at every business's place of business in Hong Kong.

Under the Business Registration Ordinance, every business — including companies, partnerships, and sole proprietorships — must register with the Inland Revenue Department and display a valid certificate, which carries the Business Registration Number (BRN). Certificates are issued for one or three years and must be renewed. For a company, the certificate is separate from the Certificate of Incorporation: one registers the business for tax, the other creates the corporate entity.
