Hong Kong has almost 3 million companies that have been registered in Hong Kong, including those that have been dissolved. (Our up-to-date database right now contains 2,982,115 companies). Unfortunately, despite claiming to be one of the world's major financial centres, Hong Kong does not open its registry, providing meagre details about each company for free through a cumbersome website, whilst charging money to find out who even their directors are. This is an attempt to make it easier to analyse the Companies Registry (see our blog for some investigations), to offer an API for developers, journalists and those engaged in due diligence, and ultimately to create an open dataset about Hong Kong's companies.
